Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has revised his earlier statement regarding the appointment of a new Acting Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration. Instead, he plans to have a discussion with Pio Tikoduadua, who is expected to return from Australia later this week.
In a recent media interaction, Rabuka clarified that he has not yet received any formal communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration about the situation but is aware of the ongoing media coverage. Furthermore, he acknowledged that the Police are set to investigate the unlawful issuance of passports to members of the Grace Road Group.
Rabuka emphasized that any final decision on the appointment will be contingent upon his upcoming conversation with Tikoduadua. It is also worth noting that last week, he mentioned that two senior officials from the Department of Immigration had been placed on leave.
This situation highlights the Prime Minister’s cautious approach in addressing crucial administrative matters. By consulting with Tikoduadua before making any decisions, Rabuka demonstrates a commitment to transparency and thoroughness in governance. It will be interesting to see how these developments unfold and what measures will be taken to address the ongoing issues within the Ministry.
