Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reconsidered his earlier decision to appoint a new Acting Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration. Instead, he plans to consult with Pio Tikoduadua upon his return from Australia this week.

Addressing the media, Rabuka mentioned that he has not received any official communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration regarding the situation, although he is aware of the media coverage surrounding it. He acknowledged that the Police are set to investigate the potential illegal issuance of passports to members of the Grace Road Group.

Rabuka emphasized that he will make a final decision after speaking with Tikoduadua. He also noted that two senior officials from the Department of Immigration have been placed on leave.

This development highlights the government’s commitment to ensure accountability and thorough investigation within its ranks, indicating a proactive approach to governance.

In summary, Prime Minister Rabuka is taking a measured approach by seeking counsel from Tikoduadua before moving forward on the appointment, ensuring that he is well-informed of the situation at hand. This could lead to a more cohesive and transparent decision-making process within the government.
