Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reflected on the political journey of the Coalition Government over the past two years, addressing the negative labels and accusations he faced leading up to the 2022 General Election. Speaking on these challenges, he noted that he was often called a “snake” and criticized for using race cards during the campaign.
Mr. Rabuka shared his resilience against personal attacks, recalling similar experiences with former Prime Minister Jai Ram Reddy during his tenure from 1992 to 1999. He acknowledged that in 2018 and 2022, he and Professor Biman Prasad encountered comparable levels of negative politics, which impacted the electorate’s perception.
In an effort to connect with the Indo-Fijian community, Mr. Rabuka introduced himself in a personal manner, expressing his desire to dispel any doubts about his sincerity as a leader. He emphasized that trust and collaboration are vital for the future of Fiji, highlighting that Mr. Prasad would not have engaged in a post-election coalition agreement without mutual trust.
He concluded by stating that the People’s Coalition Government intends to transform the electoral landscape before the next election, aiming for a united Fiji moving forward.
