Rabuka’s ‘Oceans for Peace’ Takes Center Stage at UNGA

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that his next participation in the United Nations General Assembly will coincide with the adoption of his ‘Ocean for Peace’ policy, which he proposed during the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting held in Tonga last month.

During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka mentioned that he plans to present the ‘Oceans for Peace’ policy at the next UNGA meeting, building on discussions from last year. He noted that while this policy was recently adopted at the meeting in Tonga, its detailed framework is anticipated to be finalized in Honiara, Solomon Islands, next year.

The Prime Minister also shared that he has requested His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to represent him as the Leader of Government at the upcoming 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Furthermore, Rabuka emphasized that the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fijian Government to develop a collective strategy aimed at promoting peace and security throughout the Pacific region.
