Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka held a meeting with senior police officials yesterday afternoon as part of his familiarization efforts in his capacity as the Minister Responsible for Police and Immigration. This gathering included notable figures such as Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, Deputy Police Commissioner Sakeo Raikaci, and several other senior officers, all aimed at gaining insight into the operational and management dynamics of the Fiji Police Force.

In response to inquiries made by The Fiji Times, Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the importance of these briefings, stating, “It was my ‘familiarisation briefing’ from the Acting Commissioner and his Senior Management/Command team, similar to the one I will have with the Acting Director of Immigration and Senior Staff tomorrow afternoon.”

Additionally, he shared that he conducted a similar meeting with the Divisional Police Commander Western earlier in the week. The gatherings are crucial for him to understand the workings of both police and immigration departments, aiding in informed decision-making and governance.

Joining the Prime Minister were Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua and permanent secretaries Mason Smith and Dr. Raijieli Taga from the Office of the Prime Minister.

This proactive approach by Prime Minister Rabuka illustrates a commitment to enhancing communication and collaboration within critical sectors of the government. By engaging with key law enforcement figures, he is laying the groundwork for effective governance and improved community safety. It’s a positive step that could lead to a more responsive and efficient police force in Fiji.

In summary, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is undertaking significant familiarization efforts with police leadership to strengthen operational understanding and governance in law enforcement and immigration, paving the way for improved public safety initiatives.
