Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed strong confidence in his leadership of the People’s Alliance as the party prepares for the upcoming general election. In a recent interview, Rabuka emphasized the party’s unity and strength within the three-party Coalition Government, which includes the National Federation Party (NFP) and the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA). “Anybody who is not confident of being elected should not even think of standing for elections,” he remarked, reinforcing his own assurance about the backing he receives from both grassroots supporters and fellow Members of Parliament.
Rabuka acknowledged past uncertainties faced by the coalition, stating, “Although we have had a few jolts and shocks here and there, we have done very well as a political party.” He pointed to bipartisan cooperation in Parliament as a sign of improved relations and bolstered numbers within the House. Established in September 2021, the People’s Alliance has positioned itself as a significant force in the Fiji political landscape, rapidly becoming the leading partner in forming the Coalition Government after the 2022 elections.
Despite rising speculation regarding instability within the coalition, Rabuka assured that unity among the parties remains intact. His confidence is mirrored by NFP and SODELPA leaders, who have publicly reaffirmed their commitment to the coalition’s shared goals. As they tackle key national issues, the coalition’s collaborative spirit highlights a sense of hope for the future governance of Fiji.
Looking ahead, Rabuka’s leadership is set to be tested as Fiji approaches the next polls amidst evolving political dynamics. His readiness to lead the People’s Alliance into the next election underscores a dedication to the party’s mission, as well as a proactive attitude towards maintaining stability within the coalition.
As the political landscape continues to shift, the People’s Alliance, under Rabuka’s guidance, aims to navigate these challenges while inspiring confidence in their vision for Fiji. The upcoming electoral season presents both a challenge and an opportunity for unity and strategic growth, fostering optimism among supporters.
