Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he cannot initiate a Commission of Inquiry into the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). He explained that such a commission can only be established by the President upon the Prime Minister’s recommendation. Rabuka is currently reviewing the Commission of Inquiries Act to guide his recommendations to the President.
He emphasized the need for a swift process, as many Fijians are questioning the integrity of certain institutions. “The quicker we uncover the facts, the better it will be for everyone,” he noted.
The members of the Commission have not yet been selected, but Rabuka assured that this matter will be resolved soon. He expressed his dedication to ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the inquiry process and appreciated the public’s patience as they navigate this situation.
