Rabuka’s Cabinet Conundrum: What’s Next for Minister Tabuya?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka avoided answering whether any actions would be taken against the Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, for her insubordination. Tabuya had openly suggested the reintroduction of the death penalty to deter drug trafficking in Fiji, a matter that should have been discussed in Cabinet first.

Earlier this week, Rabuka mentioned that the Cabinet would handle Tabuya’s actions. However, she has been known to violate Cabinet protocols, leading to calls for her removal from her ministerial role.

In a recent interview, Rabuka stated that he did not wish to make any premature judgments. “The issue regarding Lynda Tabuya has not been addressed,” he remarked. He added that he had not been in Fiji long enough to make a decision on the matter, which was expected to be discussed by the Cabinet earlier this week.

Rabuka expressed regret that Tabuya publicly shared her views before any Cabinet deliberations took place.
