Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that his upcoming visit to the United Nations General Assembly will coincide with the Pacific Islands Forum’s adoption of his proposed ‘Oceans for Peace’ policy, which he introduced at the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Tonga last month.
During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka mentioned that by the time of his address at the UNGA last year, he would bring the ‘Oceans for Peace’ initiative to New York. This framework was accepted during the recent PILMs in Tonga, and it is anticipated to be formally adopted in Honiara, Solomon Islands, next year.
Additionally, the Prime Minister shared that he has requested His Excellency the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, to represent him as the Leader of Government at the upcoming 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Rabuka also noted that the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fiji Government to draft a plan that promotes peace and security among Pacific nations.
