Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed his willingness to lead the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) in the upcoming 2026 General Election, contingent on the party’s support. “I will be available. It depends on the party; if the party wants me to stand, I will,” Rabuka stated.

Having been part of PAP since its founding in 2021, Rabuka played a pivotal role in shaping the party’s identity and securing a narrow victory in the December 2022 general elections. He remarked, “If they don’t want me, I’ve had my run and my influence on the party. They can decide to move forward with a new leadership style.”

Rabuka affirmed his commitment to the party, stating, “I have done everything for the party for these past three years. But I will not desert the party. If they think someone else can do the job better, then I will step aside.” He acknowledged the challenges the party might face in the leadership transition, noting that it could be difficult for another candidate to take over given the current voter dynamics within the party.

He currently holds the record for the highest number of votes garnered for PAP in the 2022 election, with 77,748 votes. In contrast, MP Lynda Tabuya received 11,965 votes, while Minister Charan Jeath Singh followed with 5,616 votes. Rabuka recognized the need for optimism despite the recent shift in public sentiment toward the Coalition from enthusiasm to a feeling of hopelessness.

This article illustrates the ongoing political landscape in Fiji, highlighting the balance of leadership, party support, and voter sentiment as the parties prepare for the next election cycle. With Rabuka’s willingness to adapt for the benefit of PAP, there remains a hopeful outlook for the party’s evolution and responsiveness to voters.

In summary, Sitiveni Rabuka is ready to lead the People’s Alliance Party in the next general election if supported by the party, emphasizing his dedication while allowing for new leadership if necessary. The dynamics of Fiji’s political environment will be crucial as the 2026 elections approach.
