Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed his willingness to be the candidate for the People’s Alliance party (PAP) in the upcoming 2026 General Election, contingent on the party’s agreement. In his own words, he stated, “I will be available. It depends on the party; if the party wants me to stand, I will.”
Rabuka has been a foundational figure in the PAP since its establishment in 2021, significantly contributing to its image and achieving a narrow victory in the December 2022 general election. He added that he would respect the party’s decision if they chose to pursue new leadership, indicating a spirit of collaboration and selflessness. “If they think someone else can do the job better, then I will step aside,” he affirmed.
He also noted that the party’s current voter base may pose a challenge for any new leader stepping up before the next elections. With his impressive record, having received the most votes within the party at 77,748 during the last election, he emphasized the importance of unity and determination moving forward.
This year could prove pivotal for Rabuka and the coalition, especially given a noticeable shift in public sentiment. While some may feel a sense of hopelessness towards the coalition’s future, there remains potential for hope through collective efforts and strong leadership. As voters prepare for the upcoming election, the ongoing commitment from leaders like Rabuka could inspire renewed confidence among constituents.
The article underlines the importance of leadership continuity and the potential for revitalization within the party, as they navigate challenges ahead. It will be crucial for them to engage with the public and address any concerns to foster a positive outlook as the election approaches.
