Rabuka Weighs Cabinet’s Response to Tabuya’s Controversial Comments

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka avoided answering whether any actions would be taken against Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, regarding her insubordinate remarks. Ms. Tabuya publicly suggested reintroducing the death penalty as a means to deter drug offenders using Fiji as a transit hub for illegal substances, a matter that was supposed to be addressed first in Cabinet.

Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Rabuka indicated that Ms. Tabuya’s conduct would be evaluated by the Cabinet. Ms. Tabuya has a history of disregarding Cabinet protocols, leading to demands for her removal from her ministerial role.

In a recent interview, Mr. Rabuka stated that he did not want to jump to conclusions about the situation. He noted, “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not been dealt with. I have not been in Fiji long enough to address the issue. It was supposed to be dealt with by the Cabinet yesterday (Tuesday).”

Mr. Rabuka expressed disappointment that Ms. Tabuya publicly shared her opinions prior to any Cabinet discussions.
