Rabuka Urges Unity as Fiji’s People’s Alliance Confronts Internal Tensions

Prime Minister and People’s Alliance Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka is calling for unity and discipline within his party in light of recent internal divisions. During the party’s Annual General Meeting, Rabuka addressed concerns stemming from dissatisfied letters and emails exchanged prior to the event, highlighting the importance of managing differences among members, particularly those related to generational gaps.

Emphasizing the party’s mission to foster a united and prosperous Fiji while upholding the rule of law, Rabuka stated, “We must cope with the differences, our generational differences.” He acknowledged that disagreements are a natural part of a democratic environment, but stressed that such differences need to be navigated through proper communication channels rather than through social media.

Amid speculation regarding potential leadership changes, Rabuka reassured members that facing criticism and internal discord can serve as a path to growth. He urged all members to engage in constructive dialogue and focus on achieving results for the country, reinforcing that the party’s collective strength lies in shared goals and cooperative action.

The Prime Minister’s call for unity comes as the People’s Alliance faces various pressures, including some factions exploring the formation of a new political party ahead of upcoming elections. However, Rabuka remains confident, asserting that the People’s Alliance is solidly united and committed to serving the Fijian people. His firm leadership and emphasis on cohesion suggest a positive outlook for the party as they navigate future challenges, aiming to strengthen their resolve and maintain a unified front in the political arena.
