Rabuka to Lead Fiji Town Hall in Tavua as Western Division Debut

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to participate in the Fiji Media Association’s “Meet the Public and the Press” event today in Tavua, marking the inaugural Town Hall meeting in the Western Division. This significant gathering will take place at the Golden Event Centre from 7 PM to 9 PM and will be streamed live on the social media platforms of major news outlets across Fiji.

Fiji Media Association (FMA) General Secretary Stanley Simpson highlighted that these town hall meetings are a vital initiative aimed at reinforcing a democratic culture by holding elected officials accountable and ensuring that they respond to the needs of citizens, particularly those from regions that often go unheard outside the capital and major urban centers. Simpson stated, “These are opportunities to strengthen Fiji’s democracy through meaningful engagement facilitated by the media.”

Following today’s event, the FMA will host a second town hall meeting at the Kshatriya Hall in Ba tomorrow night, further expanding on their commitment to facilitating direct communication between the government and citizens.

Previous town hall events organized by the FMA have received positive feedback, with local leaders and citizens engaging in open dialogues about pressing community matters such as economic development, health services, and infrastructure. The commitment to fostering transparency and public engagement is evident, as similar events have also taken place in Labasa and Savusavu, creating a pathway for civic participation and enhancing trust in public institutions.

The collaborative effort among Fiji’s major media establishments creates an essential platform for citizens to express their concerns, ask questions, and hold their government accountable. These gatherings have the potential to be a transformative force in Fiji’s democratic landscape, providing hope for increased accountability and fostering meaningful dialogue between government representatives and the public.

Overall, this initiative reflects a proactive approach to governance and enhances the vital connection between the government and ordinary Fijians, encouraging a more engaged and informed citizenry for the future.
