Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made the decision to terminate Lynda Tabuya’s position in his cabinet as the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. In his announcement, Rabuka cited the recent actions of Tabuya, which were evaluated against the oath she took as a Minister and the expectations associated with such a position.
Rabuka stated, “I have decided to exercise the power conferred upon me by Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution, to dismiss her as a Minister, with immediate effect.” He assured the public that this decision was not made lightly but was necessary for the well-being of the people they serve. Despite her dismissal from the cabinet, Tabuya will retain her seat as a Member of Parliament.
In place of Tabuya, Prime Minister Rabuka has appointed Sashi Kiran as the new Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. Kiran’s swearing-in ceremony will take place shortly, where she will officially take on her role as a substantive Minister.
This change in ministerial leadership may lead to new initiatives and perspectives in the administration’s approach to social issues, which bodes well for the continued development of supportive policies for women and children in Fiji. The transition offers hope for a fresh approach to leadership in this crucial ministry, potentially enhancing the welfare of the communities they serve.
