Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially removed Lynda Tabuya from her role in the cabinet. This decision follows recent developments regarding Tabuya’s conduct as the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. In his statement, Rabuka emphasized the importance of the oath taken by ministers and the high standards expected from those in government positions.

Rabuka exercised his authority under Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution to carry out this dismissal, which takes effect immediately. However, he clarified that Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but one that is necessary in the best interest of the people that we serve,” said Rabuka in explanation of his actions.

In the wake of Tabuya’s dismissal, Rabuka has announced the appointment of Sashi Kiran to take over as the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. Kiran will be sworn in as a substantive minister by the President.

This transition in leadership presents an opportunity for fresh perspectives in addressing the needs of women, children, and vulnerable populations in Fiji. As the government moves forward, it’s hoped that the new appointment will bring renewed focus and vigor to the important work of social protection in the country.

Overall, while leadership changes in government can be challenging, they also offer the chance for progress and improvement in public service, encouraging citizens to remain hopeful for a future that prioritizes the welfare of all citizens.
