Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially removed Lynda Tabuya from her role in the cabinet. This decision was influenced by recent developments regarding the conduct of the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. Rabuka emphasized the importance of maintaining the standards expected of all ministers and the oath Tabuya took upon her appointment.

In his statement, Rabuka indicated that he exercised his constitutional authority to dismiss Tabuya, effective immediately. However, he clarified that she will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament. “This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but one that is necessary in the best interest of the people that we serve,” he stated.

Following Tabuya’s dismissal, Sashi Kiran has been designated as her replacement. Kiran will be appointed as the new Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection as soon as she is sworn in by the President. This transition represents an opportunity for new leadership to address the critical issues related to women and children’s welfare in Fiji.

The restructuring may bring fresh perspectives and renewed focus to the ministry, ultimately benefiting those it serves. Such changes are often essential for adapting to the evolving needs of society, ensuring that the government remains responsive and accountable to its constituents.
