Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made it clear that he has no intentions of retiring from politics, affirming that political life extends beyond simply holding office. When asked about his plans following his current term, he responded, “What do you mean by retiring from politics? Who can ever retire from politics?”
Rabuka pointed out that while someone may step back from a political party, they can remain politically engaged by voting and expressing their opinions. He noted, “I can retire from the political party, but we will continue to be in politics because we vote and we air our views.”
Despite facing some health challenges, including periodic knee pain, Rabuka has garnered support from his party. People’s Alliance vice president Ratu Jo Dimuri declared that the Prime Minister is capable of leading during the upcoming elections, despite public concern regarding his health.
Rabuka’s readiness to remain active in politics resonates with his previous remarks about speculations surrounding his candidacy for the 2026 elections. Although he has not made an official announcement about running again, particularly amid considerations for his party’s alignment with its foundational manifesto in the context of a Coalition Government, he acknowledged the strong desire from party members for his continued leadership. This reflects a collective commitment within the People’s Alliance to pursue the party’s vision.
In a bid to foster active involvement, Rabuka has urged supporters to participate in discussions about the party’s direction, signaling that the manifesto may evolve based on group input. This collaborative approach seems to inspire hope within the party as they prepare to face future electoral challenges.
Rabuka’s determination and the steadfast backing from his party members underscore a resilient commitment to serve and adapt to the shifting political landscape, highlighting the belief in cooperative efforts to uplift the nation. Such engagement showcases the potential for positive change driven by public input and collective vision.
