Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made significant changes within the Fijian government by reassigning the Department of Immigration and the Fiji Police Force to his direct oversight. This decision comes after Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, offered to step back temporarily due to ongoing investigations in the Immigration Department. Rabuka’s actions are in accordance with the powers granted to him under Section 92(3) of the Constitution of Fiji.

Despite this change, Tikoduadua will continue his role as Minister for Defence, overseeing the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Veterans’ Affairs. He will receive support from Mason Smith, who retains his position as the Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veterans Affairs. The implementation of these adjustments is set to take place tomorrow.

This reassignment shows the government’s commitment to integrity and transparency, as Rabuka addresses important matters within the departments. Such leadership decisions can be viewed positively, as they aim to restore public confidence in key institutions during a time of scrutiny.

In summary, Prime Minister Rabuka is taking proactive steps to manage sensitive government areas, ensuring that leadership remains strong while addressing ongoing investigations. This approach not only seeks to fortify the government’s functioning but also signals a dedication to accountability.
