Rabuka Responds to Controversy: What’s the Church Saying?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he is not aware of any concerns raised by the Methodist Church of Fiji regarding Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya’s remarks. Ms. Tabuya faced criticism for proposing the death penalty for individuals who traffic large quantities of drugs. Mr. Rabuka clarified, “No, I have not been informed; I have not heard from the MCIF directly.” At the time of this report, Mr. Rabuka had not yet indicated if he would meet with Ms. Tabuya upon his return to Fiji. He is currently in Tonga for the 53rd Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting, which concludes tomorrow.
