Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has taken decisive action by reassigning the Department of Immigration and the Fiji Police Force to his direct oversight. This decision follows a careful evaluation regarding the temporary resignation of Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, amid ongoing investigations within the Department. Utilizing his authority under Section 92(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, Rabuka has prioritized transparency and accountability within these vital government sectors.

Despite this reassignment, Tikoduadua will continue to fulfill his duties as the Minister for Defence, overseeing the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Veterans’ Affairs. He will still be supported by Mason Smith, who will maintain his role as the Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veterans Affairs.

These administrative changes are set to take effect immediately, signaling the Prime Minister’s commitment to addressing any issues within the immigration system and police force.

This move could hopefully restore public confidence in the governance of these departments, ensuring that any challenges are addressed promptly and efficiently. It also indicates a proactive approach by the Prime Minister to reinforce leadership and maintain stability during a time of scrutiny.
