Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Department of Immigration and the Fiji Police Force will now be managed directly under his oversight. This decision comes after a thorough evaluation related to issues within the Department of Immigration, leading to the temporary resignation offer from the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration. This move aligns with Rabuka’s authority under Section 92(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji.

Despite this shift, Honourable Pio Tikoduadua will continue in his role as Minister for Defence, overseeing the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Veterans’ Affairs. He will be backed by Mason Smith, who remains the Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veterans Affairs.

These organizational changes are set to take effect on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

This restructuring could potentially enhance accountability and streamline operations within critical governmental departments, fostering greater public trust and effective governance. It reflects a commitment to addressing internal challenges and maintaining stability within Fiji’s security framework.
