Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reconsidered his earlier statement regarding the appointment of a new Acting Home Affairs and Immigration Minister. Instead, he plans to discuss the situation with Pio Tikoduadua, who is expected to return from Australia this week.
In a recent media briefing, Rabuka mentioned that he has yet to receive any official communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, although he is aware of media reports concerning the issue. He acknowledged that the Police are set to investigate the unauthorized issuance of passports to members of the Grace Road Group.
The Prime Minister indicated that he will make a decision on the matter only after consulting with Tikoduadua. Previously, Rabuka had announced that two senior officials from the Department of Immigration had been placed on leave.
This development highlights the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, particularly regarding serious allegations. It is crucial for leaders to take informed and decisive actions based on accurate information, ensuring that the integrity of public service is upheld. As discussions progress, there is hope that swift actions will lead to resolutions that strengthen trust in government processes and promote a fair justice system.
