Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed his willingness to lead the People’s Alliance party (PAP) in the upcoming 2026 General Election, contingent on the party’s desire for his candidacy. He stated, “I will be available. It depends on the party, if the party wants me to stand, I will.”

Rabuka played a pivotal role in the establishment of the PAP in 2021, contributing significantly to the party’s identity and its success in the tightly contested general election held in December 2022. He emphasized his commitment to the party over the past three years but acknowledged that if the party sees fit to choose a different leader, he would respect that decision. “If they think someone else can do the job better, then I will step aside,” Rabuka stated.

He also noted the challenges that might arise in leadership transitions, considering current party dynamics and the importance of voter support. Rabuka, who garnered the highest number of votes for PAP in the 2022 election with 77,748 votes, mentioned that any potential leadership change would depend on the party’s collective decision and their current voter appeal.

This year is particularly significant for Rabuka and his coalition, as there seems to be a shift in public sentiment from optimism to uncertainty. Despite these challenges, there is an opportunity for renewed energy and strategy within the party as they prepare for the next election.

In a hopeful outlook, Rabuka’s willingness to step aside if necessary could lead to a more unified decision-making process within the party, potentially fostering new leadership that resonates with voters. The upcoming election offers a chance to reshape the party’s narrative and reconnect with the electorate.

Summary: Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is ready to lead the People’s Alliance party in the 2026 General Election if the party desires it. He reflects on his contributions since the party’s formation and acknowledges the challenges of potential leadership changes. Despite a shift in public perception, there is hope for the party to revitalize its strategy moving forward.
