Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he is not aware of any issues raised by the Methodist Church of Fiji regarding statements made by Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya. Ms. Tabuya faced backlash for her proposal to impose the death penalty on individuals involved in drug trafficking. Mr. Rabuka confirmed to a local newspaper, “No, I have not been informed, I have not heard from the MCIF directly.” At the time of reporting, he had not indicated whether he would meet with Ms. Tabuya following his return to Fiji. Currently, Mr. Rabuka is in Tonga for the 53rd Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting, which is set to conclude tomorrow.
