Rabuka Demands Answers on Festival Safety Concerns

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has requested an explanation from Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa concerning a number of incidents during the 2024 Hibiscus Festival. Speaking at the Miss Hibiscus crowning ceremony on Saturday, Mr. Rabuka expressed his dissatisfaction with the organization of the festival and stressed the importance of improved safety measures at such events.

He shared that his grandchildren had accompanied him and fortunately avoided being near the incident that took place earlier in the week. Mr. Rabuka called on all parties involved in future festivals to make public safety a top priority. He urged government agencies, municipal councils, and business operators to ensure the safety and security of the public.

In addition, Mr. Rabuka expressed disappointment over the absence of the Drug Free World Fiji crew from the opening march, highlighting the importance of their awareness efforts regarding the dangers of drug use as a matter of concern. He has formally invited Mr. Nalumisa to account for the issues that occurred during the festival.
