Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres yesterday. Guterres is slated to participate in the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM53) in Tonga this week, where discussions will focus on climate change and its implications for the region among Pacific Island leaders.
In response to questions regarding Fiji’s strategy for climate financing, Mr. Rabuka indicated that this topic would be included in the agenda. He was joined by Dr. Sivendra Michael, the special advisor for climate change in the Prime Minister’s Office and the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Environment. Rabuka also plans to present the “Ocean of Peace” concept to the Pacific leaders during the forum.
Throughout the week, Mr. Rabuka will engage in additional bilateral meetings with other leaders. The PIFLM53 is set to commence today in Nuku’alofa with an official opening ceremony hosted by the Government of Tonga.
