Rabuka Addresses FICAC Inquiry: What’s Next for Fiji’s Integrity?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made it clear that he does not have the authority to initiate a Commission of Inquiry into the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). According to Rabuka, such a commission can only be established by the President of Fiji based on the Prime Minister’s advice. He is currently reviewing the Commission of Inquiries Act to formulate a recommendation for the President. Following this, the Terms of Reference will be created and announced.

Rabuka emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The shorter this process is, the better. Many Fijians are questioning the integrity of some institutions, and the quicker we uncover the facts, the better it will be for everyone.” He noted that the members of the Commission have not yet been decided, but reassured the public that this will be addressed soon.

He also reiterated his commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the inquiry process, expressing gratitude for the public’s patience as they navigate these developments.
