The Ra district teams are gearing up with enthusiasm for the Vodafone Kaji competition, as emphasized by Under 13 coach Varayame Ratu. His main focus for the team is to gain exposure and foster the development of their young players. Despite only having trained together for a week prior to the events, which commenced at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, the resilience of the players shone through, even in the face of challenges like lacking proper training shoes.

The Ra district fielded four teams across two age categories, Under 13 and Under 14, representing various areas from Drauniivi to Bureiwai and Bucalevu. Coach Ratu expressed that their intention was not solely about winning but rather enhancing the skills of the young boys. He highlighted the importance of this development, especially in light of the success of Fijiana teams in rugby, noting that it could pave the way for young female athletes as well.

The training regimen included three sessions a day, starting with a morning devotion to instill discipline and camaraderie. Ratu urged the community back in Ra to come out and support their teams at the stadium, fostering a strong sense of local pride.

This competition represents not just a sporting event, but also a valuable opportunity for growth and camaraderie among young athletes. The emphasis on skill development and community support showcases a positive approach to cultivating future talent in Fijian rugby.

In summary, the Ra district teams are approaching the Vodafone Kaji competition with the primary goal of development and skills enhancement, emphasizing teamwork, dedication, and a spirit of community support. This focus promises a hopeful future for both the players and the broader rugby landscape in Fiji.
