QVS Triumphs in Deans Trophy with Seruvakula’s Expert Guidance

Former Flying Fijians forwards coach Senirusi Seruvakula played a crucial role in Queen Victoria School’s 27-13 victory over Nasinu Secondary School in the Vodafone Deans Trophy final. This was highlighted by QVS Under-18 head coach Josaia Waiwalu on Saturday night.

Waiwalu stated that Seruvakula acts as their technical coach and emphasized his expertise, calling him “the best coach in the Pacific” and noting his connection to the school as an alumnus. He expressed gratitude for Seruvakula’s involvement with the team.

Earlier this year, Seruvakula was considered for the Flying Fijians head coach position. In the past, he led the Fijian Drua to triumph in the Australia National Rugby Championship in 2018 and coached the Fiji women’s rugby team at the 2022 Women’s Rugby World Cup, where they achieved a notable victory over South Africa.

Last year, Seruvakula served as the forwards coach for the Flying Fijians team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the Rugby World Cup.

Waiwalu mentioned that the team prepared thoroughly to defend the Deans Trophy against a strong opponent, focusing on maintaining possession, which proved effective. He shared the team’s journey throughout the season, emphasizing the bond formed among players from diverse backgrounds and their commitment to supporting one another.

This victory holds special significance for QVS as it marks the 25th occasion they have claimed the Deans Trophy. Waiwalu noted that the trophy represents the Tailevu schools.

In addition, QVS captain Anare Tabakaucoro expressed his ambition to further his rugby career by aiming to join the Fijian Drua. He underlined the importance of playing professionally while staying close to his mother. Tabakaucoro remained composed during the final, taking charge of the game’s tempo and shared that this was his last year, emphasizing his desire to give back to the school and honor the support of their parents, many of whom raised them as single parents.
