Bullying at Queen Victoria School (QVS) has significantly decreased, reportedly reaching “almost zero levels.” This transformation is attributed to faith-based leadership, counseling support, and active cooperation from students, as noted by principal Matia Loga during a recent cadet passing-out parade at Matavatucou. He highlighted the substantial changes within the school community, with students actively contributing to creating a safer environment, particularly in the dormitories.

Mr. Loga expressed gratitude for the positive shift, emphasizing that discipline has improved and junior boys are now able to enjoy peaceful dormitory life. He credited senior students for their willingness to change their mindsets and support junior students, recapping a stark contrast to incidents from previous years, including notable cases of bullying and corporal punishment.

In March, the school faced serious allegations when nine senior students were implicated in physically punishing younger peers. This incident prompted a comprehensive audit of the school’s operations, leading to an emphasis on mental health support and behavioral interventions initiated by the Education Ministry.

The previous concerns about bullying at QVS point toward a challenging culture within the institution. Reports of illicit activities and misconduct among students prompted significant public attention, with government officials, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and stakeholders advocating for a thorough investigation and greater accountability. They underscored the necessity for a robust school environment where students feel secure and respected.

In the wake of these issues, there is a sense of renewed hope as the QVS community rallies for constructive changes. By fostering collaboration among students, educators, and parents, there is potential for lasting improvements that ensure a nurturing environment for academic and personal growth. This positive focus on reform indicates a commitment to upholding high standards and safeguarding the wellbeing of all students.
