Queen Victoria School successfully defended their U18 Vodafone Super Deans title with a decisive 27-13 win against Nasinu Secondary School at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
QVS got off to a strong start, with hooker Waisake Vakacere scoring the opening try in the 12th minute, which fullback Nathan Stephens converted, giving QVS an early 7-0 lead. They then extended their advantage to 12-0 with a try from winger Joleni Raiyawa in the 19th minute.
Nasinu’s Samuela Ravoci kept his team competitive, scoring two penalty kicks to bring the score to 12-6. However, Stephens added another penalty for QVS, increasing their lead to 15-6 at halftime.
In the second half, openside flanker Ilaitia Rakuro further widened the margin with a try in the corner, bringing the score to 20-6 in favor of the defending champions. Asaeli Gade then sealed the match with one more try, putting QVS beyond Nasinu’s reach.
In the closing moments, Nasinu managed to score their first try with Sionasa Verenasau, but it was too late for a comeback, allowing Queen Victoria School to celebrate their well-deserved victory.
