Fiji-born Seru Uru has officially renewed his contract with the Queensland Reds, committing to the team for the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season. The Queensland Rugby Union has announced that Uru’s physical style of play and adaptability in both back-row and lock positions have been critical to the Reds’ efforts over the past two seasons.
At 28 years old, Uru expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with the Reds, highlighting that staying in Queensland has always been part of his professional aspirations. “I started my professional rugby journey here, and I’ve always called Ballymore home,” Uru shared. “It’s such a special moment for me when I come into Ballymore each day and see my name on the locker in our dressing room.”
Head Coach Les Kiss acknowledged the importance of Uru’s re-signing, stating, “Seru is a very skilful, impactful player who continues to work hard on his game. The versatility he brings as a backrower or lock is a great benefit.”
Additionally, the Reds are gearing up for their final match of the season against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, set to take place on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. This match will offer fans a chance to see Uru and his teammates in action as they look to close the season on a high note.
The continuity of talent within the Reds, highlighted by Uru’s extension along with fellow player Filipo Daugunu’s new contract until 2027, signifies a positive trajectory for the team’s future. This dedication to developing homegrown talent will undoubtedly bolster Australian rugby, setting the stage for exciting developments in the coming seasons.
Uru’s commitment and the overall strengthening of the squad resonate with the ethos of resilience and ambition that characterize the sport. As the rugby community anticipates the upcoming match and future seasons, there is hope for growth and success both for Uru individually and the Queensland Reds collectively.
