Queensland Reds ended a frustrating run against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, beating the hosts 21–6 in a Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific fixture in Fiji. The victory — built on a resolved defence and clinical finishing when chances arrived — gave the Reds their first win over the Drua after a string of previous defeats to the island side.

The Drua struck first when fly-half Isaiah Armstrong‑Ravula slotted a 30‑metre penalty just 10 minutes in to put the home team 3–0 ahead. The Reds answered through captain Tate McDermott, who capitalised on broken play in midfield to power over under the posts; the conversion gave Queensland a 7–3 lead. Armstrong‑Ravula reduced the margin with a second penalty soon after, making it 7–6 and keeping the contest tight heading into a tense period of play.

A golden chance for the Drua before halftime went begging when winger Ponipate Loganimasi knocked the ball on in the corner, a costly handling error that prevented the hosts from retaking the lead. Both sides struggled to convert pressure into points in the remaining first‑half exchanges, and the Reds went into the break with a slim edge.

The second half opened with both teams probing without immediate reward, but the Reds eventually found the breakthrough. Queensland crossed under the posts to extend their advantage to 14–6 and later added a third try to seal a 21–6 scoreline. The identity of the second‑half try scorers was not detailed, but the Reds’ ability to finish the promising phases they built contrasted with the Drua’s growing mistake count.

Fatigue proved decisive in the closing stages for the home side. Repeated handling errors and turnovers undermined several Drua attacks and denied them the possession needed to mount a comeback, allowing the Reds to control territory and see out the win. Armstrong‑Ravula’s two penalties accounted for all of the Drua’s points; the hosts were otherwise held scoreless in open play.

The result is the latest development in an uneven start for both teams in the Super Rugby Pacific campaign: for the Reds it is a morale‑boosting away victory and an end to a run of losses against the Drua, while the Fijian side will reflect on missed opportunities and the costly errors that ultimately decided the match.
