The Fiji Society for the Blind has received a generous early Christmas gift, as Queensland Insurance donated over $15,000 this week, marking a significant milestone in their 13-year partnership. This collaboration has played a vital role in enhancing the lives of students and their families associated with the society.
Kim Strudwick, Senior Communications Manager at Queensland Insurance, emphasized the company’s dedication to fostering community resilience. She highlighted that for nearly a decade, this partnership has significantly impacted those in need, with a cumulative contribution exceeding $180,000 over the last decade. The ongoing support through the QBE Foundation aims to elevate education, mobility, and available opportunities for individuals within the community.
This year’s funding will facilitate essential initiatives, including the provision of a school bus service, which accounts for $10,000 of the donation. This service is crucial for the safe transportation of 13 day students along the Suva-Nausori corridor and supports extracurricular activities that encourage social interaction and growth among the school’s 23 students. The remaining $5,000 will benefit an Early Intervention Program, providing vision screenings, home training, and mobility support for 30 children throughout Fiji.
Barbara Farouk, the executive director of the Fiji Society for the Blind, expressed immense gratitude for QBE’s support over the years, acknowledging that such donations alleviate financial burdens, as operations predominantly rely on external contributions.
