Queen Victoria School is poised to defend its title in the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans under-18 final, a competition in which they have a storied history. The school first won the Deans Trophy in 1939 and has since become the most successful institution in the tournament’s history with a record 24 titles.
As the reigning champions, QVS will take on Nasinu Secondary School this weekend for the 2024 Deans Trophy. Coach Josaia Waiwalu expressed confidence following their semi-final victory, stating, “No pressure at all.” He emphasized the team’s extensive experience at this level, asserting that they have consistently delivered strong performances.
Waiwalu highlighted the team’s need to focus on the fundamentals, explaining, “We must go back to the basics, focus on the little things in our game, and hopefully the bigger picture will just reveal itself towards the end of the game.” He noted that their recent semi-final success, a narrow 17-11 win over Ratu Navula, was due in large part to their ability to maintain possession.
The finals are set to take place this Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
