Old scholars of Queen Victoria School have launched their inaugural Walkathon to support the 16 Days of Activism campaign, highlighting solidarity with individuals living with disabilities. The event, themed “Walk Against Violence and Walk for Inclusion,” serves not only to bolster the school’s athletics program but also to provide assistance to women’s groups and the National Council of Persons with Disabilities.
Semisi Bainivalu, the committee leader for the Walkathon, emphasized the drive’s goal to set a precedent that encourages future generations of men to embrace inclusion and challenge the prevailing notions of toxic masculinity. He noted that the event has garnered substantial support from alumni and Fijians living abroad, showcasing a united front for this important cause.
The fundraiser aims to raise $20,000, with a commitment to donate 10% of the proceeds to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities and 5% to an iTaukei women’s group. Bainivalu expressed hope that this initiative could become an annual event, expanding its scope to support minority groups further and inspire the next wave of leaders within the school and the Old Boys community.
Fijians interested in contributing to this worthy cause are encouraged to visit the official social media pages of QVS Old Boys for more information on how to get involved.
