Manshika Prasad, recently crowned Miss Universe Fiji 2024, faced unexpected turmoil just two days after her victory when claims and confusion about her title emerged. The announcement was made during a private celebration that included guests and followers, but soon after, allegations of vote rigging, sexual assault, and financial misconduct took center stage.
Throughout this challenging period, Ms. Prasad maintained a humble demeanor while enduring the fallout of a relentless media attack initiated by a rival contestant. As the reigning queen sat silently amidst the controversy, speculation and public discourse intensified regarding her lack of response to the allegations.
At 23 years old, Ms. Prasad chose not to engage in social media battles, focusing instead on her role as the acknowledged titleholder. The situation escalated with her competitor’s unfounded accusations that also hinted at racial undertones.
However, clarity returned when Ms. Prasad addressed the situation, confirming her participation in the upcoming Miss Universe International pageant. In a recent Instagram post featuring a striking photo of herself in a sleeveless white gown adorned with her crown and sash, she stated, “Counting down days until I’m in Mexico for the 73rd Miss Universe.” She reiterated her standing by declaring, “I am going officially as stated by Miss Universe Organisation. See you in Mexico.”
This latest development follows a month after rival contestant Nadine Roberts publicly sought to challenge Ms. Prasad’s title. Ms. Roberts, who has connections to Fiji through her mother’s heritage, continued to assert her claims, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest within the pageant organization. Despite inquiries sent to her, Ms. Roberts did not respond before publication.
In a statement from Australia, Ms. Prasad revealed that her preparations for the Miss Universe event in Mexico are well underway. She champions a cause against violence toward women and girls and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration in Australia.
