BILO Bar Club Aflame Sisters captain Varanisese Qoro is focused on making her mark at the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens tournament. The talented athlete, a former student of Adi Cakobau School, is part of the wider Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s squad and is looking to secure a place in the lineup for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament next weekend.
Qoro, who was previously a member of the Fijiana 7s team competing in Dubai and Cape Town, understands the competitive nature of the selection process as her team, alongside Mount Masada, represents the second round of the shadow Fijiana 7s side. “The pressure is definitely on for all of us because selection for Perth will be done straight after this tournament,” she stated, emphasizing the determination shared among her teammates.
With aspirations to wear the white jumper, Qoro is committed to showcasing her best performance. “I really want to represent Fiji at the Perth 7s. I am trying my best because there are a lot of competitions in the squad and everyone is trying to impress the coach,” she remarked. While she acknowledges that she may not be at her full capacity yet, she is determined to give her all in this tournament. “It’ll be such a blessing if I get selected, but if I do not make it, it’s fine, I will keep trying,” she added.
Previously a member of the Lilian Amazons team, Qoro was identified by interim Fijiana 7s coach Jim Volavola, which reflects the growth opportunities within the Fijian rugby scene.
In summary, Qoro’s journey encapsulates the spirit of resilience and ambition prevalent in Fijian sports, where athletes continuously strive to reach their dreams despite the challenges. Her positive attitude and eagerness to improve serve not only as motivation for herself but also as encouragement for aspiring athletes in Fiji, underlining that perseverance can lead to significant achievements on the international stage.
