The vibrant sounds of rhythmic tins and drums resonated through the capital city on Saturday as a youth group from Nakauvadra, Delainavesi showcased the traditional Qiri Kava performance as part of the joyous celebrations for the New Year, known as Vakatawase.

After the captivating performance, group member Raiova Ledua expressed that their journey to the capital transcended mere tradition. He emphasized the importance of sharing love, unity, and gratitude during this festive season. “Today we came to the capital to display love, because it’s the season of celebration, and we want to share love,” Ledua stated.

The group comprises around 20 young individuals hailing from different provinces, all currently residing together in Delainavesi. Despite their distinct backgrounds, Ledua shared that Qiri Kava is an integral part of their identity. “What you saw today has been in our blood. We don’t need to practice; we only ran through the routine last night, and we were ready to go,” he revealed.

Ledua also highlighted the spiritual significance of their performance, noting that the New Year season serves as a time for reflection and gratitude. He stated, “This season, it’s important to praise God. Most of us may only be drunk at times; those are just common worldly habits.” He continued, “But today we came to Qiri Kava to share the spirit of love from our area and to remind those here in town that our celebration doesn’t stop here.”

Beyond the vibrant festivities, Ledua hopes that the community will remember the importance of gratitude. “At the end of the day, we should all be thankful to God,” he remarked. While the group does not seek any returns from the public, Ledua conveyed their simple hope: that their performance inspires encouragement and joy. “We’re not expecting much. Whatever routine we know, we hope it lifts your spirit,” he added.

This heartfelt display not only brings together the rich cultural traditions of the region but also fosters a sense of community and gratitude during a time often marked by reflection and celebration.
