Every youth group participated successfully in the “Qiri kava” (drum beating) competition, with the Kalekana settlement team from Lami emerging as the champion and taking home a prize of $1000. Organized by ARUKA Fiji, the event took place at the Raiwaqa basketball court on Saturday, although only four of the ten registered teams attended.

Inoke Drauna, the founder of ARUKA Fiji, emphasized that the competition was designed to empower young people by offering them a platform to showcase their talents while marking the end of the year. Additionally, he highlighted the event’s role in raising awareness about crucial support services, including child protection and HIV awareness.

Mr. Drauna expressed that such initiatives are vital in engaging youth who are often underrepresented in community activities, enabling them to access essential services. This positive engagement not only fosters a sense of community among the youth but also helps in their personal development and connection to vital resources. The event was a testament to the creativity and energy of young people, creating a hopeful atmosphere as the year comes to a close.
