QBE’s Generous Gift: Transforming Lives in Fiji’s Blind Community

Spread the love

The Fiji Society for the Blind recently received a generous donation exceeding $15,000 from Queensland Insurance, an act of kindness that came just in time for the holiday season. This contribution marks a significant milestone in the company’s 13-year partnership with the organization.

Kim Strudwick, the senior communications manager, emphasized the company’s dedication to fostering community resilience and empowering individuals to face challenges, thereby promoting independent living. She noted how this collaboration has positively impacted the lives of students and their families over nearly a decade. To date, Queensland Insurance, through the QBE Foundation, has donated more than $180,000 to support education, mobility, and opportunities for these individuals.

This year’s contribution consists of $10,000 designated for a crucial school bus service, which will ensure safe transportation for 13 day students along the Suva-Nausori corridor. Additionally, this bus will facilitate extracurricular activities, enriching the experiences of the school’s 23 students. The remaining $5,000 is allocated to the Early Intervention Program, which aims to provide vision screenings, home training, and mobility support for 30 children throughout Fiji.

Barbara Farouk, the executive director of the Fiji Society for the Blind, expressed deep gratitude for QBE’s long-standing support. She highlighted how the donations not only alleviate some financial pressures but also help parents in providing essential transportation for their children.

This partnership showcases the impactful role of community support and corporate responsibility in addressing social challenges, ultimately enabling those in need to live fuller, more independent lives. It stands as a testament to the positive change that can arise from long-term collaborations between organizations and the communities they serve.

In a world where assistance can be transformative, this donation shines a light on the importance of continued support and generosity, particularly as we head into the holiday season.
