Punjas has announced the opening of its new $55 million Distribution Centre in Lautoka, which is set to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific with an impressive storage capacity of 24,000 pallets. This state-of-the-art facility, currently under construction, highlights the company’s dedication to improving its supply chain capabilities within Fiji and the wider Pacific region.

The new distribution centre plays a pivotal role in Punjas’ expansion strategy to meet the rising demand for both food and non-food products. This initiative further cements Punjas’ status as one of the largest privately-owned enterprises in Fiji.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, visited the Punjas facilities to observe the progress of the new centre and understand the company’s operational strategies. He remarked that this development is a vital achievement not only for Punjas but also for the Pacific region as a whole. He believes it will enhance the efficiency of regional supply chains, generate new economic opportunities, and elevate Fiji’s status in the expanding Pacific market.

Founded in 1935, Punjas is approaching its 90th anniversary next year and continues to flourish with over 1,500 employees. During the visit, Punjas’ management showcased the company’s significant role in the local economy and its expanding international footprint, driven by its range of Fijian-made products.

In addition, Professor Prasad toured the corporate headquarters and the biscuit manufacturing facilities, which are key components of the company’s extensive distribution network and ongoing innovation.

Punjas is also recognized for its commitment to corporate social responsibility. Recently, the company announced a $2.25 million investment in expanding the Punjas Medical Centre, which will provide essential healthcare services to the community. Moreover, the extension of the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka reflects the company’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for local residents.

The visit concluded with a meeting between Professor Prasad and Punjas’ Senior Directors, Mr. Kanti Punja and Mr. Jagjiwan Punja, where they discussed the company’s future vision and its contributions to economic growth.

As Punjas approaches its milestone 90th anniversary, it continues to play a crucial role in driving economic development and community welfare in Fiji, promising a prosperous future for the region.

In a time where investment in local infrastructure and community initiatives is vital, Punjas’ efforts are commendable and inspire hope for continued economic growth and enhancement of quality of life across Fiji and the Pacific.
