One of Fiji’s largest privately-owned businesses, the Punjas Group of Companies, has launched a new $55 million distribution center in the Western Division as it approaches its 90th anniversary next year. This significant investment is part of Punjas’s strategy for expansion and is expected to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific, with a storage capacity of 24,000 pallets.

Currently under construction in Lautoka, this state-of-the-art facility demonstrates Punjas’s dedication to enhancing its supply chain capabilities across Fiji and the wider Pacific region. This effort comes in response to the increasing demand for food and non-food consumer goods.

During a recent tour of the facility, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, acknowledged the investment as a landmark development for both Punjas and the Pacific region. He noted that it would significantly improve the efficiency of regional supply chains and generate new economic opportunities, thereby reinforcing Fiji’s status in the flourishing market of the Pacific.

Established in 1935, Punjas currently employs over 1,500 workers. Mr. Prasad also visited the company’s corporate headquarters and biscuit manufacturing operations, where management shared their aspirations for the future and their contributions to economic development.

Additionally, last week Punjas celebrated the expansion of the Punjas Medical Centre with a $2.25 million investment through its Punjas Charity Trust, aiming to make medical care more accessible to the community. The company also expanded the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka, reflecting its ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Fijians.

This investment not only showcases Punjas’s growth but also highlights a positive trend of corporate social responsibility in fostering community wellness and economic resilience in Fiji.

In summary, the Punjas Group’s new distribution center and associated charitable efforts embody the company’s commitment to sustainable growth, economic opportunity, and community improvement, positioning Fiji for a brighter future in regional marketplaces.
