Punjas has announced the completion of its impressive $55 million Distribution Centre in Lautoka, which is set to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific with a storage capability of 24,000 pallets. This advanced facility, currently being built, reflects Punjas’s commitment to improving its supply chain operations throughout Fiji and the larger Pacific area.
This new centre forms an integral part of Punjas’s expansion strategy, designed to meet the increasing demand for both food and non-food products. The initiative further reinforces the company’s standing as one of the largest privately-owned businesses in Fiji.
During a recent visit, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, toured the new distribution centre to gain insights into Punjas’s operations and strategic goals. He remarked that this facility marks a significant achievement not only for Punjas but also for the entire Pacific region. He noted that it is expected to enhance the efficiency of regional supply chains, provide new economic prospects, and bolster Fiji’s role in the expanding Pacific market.
Founded in 1935, Punjas is nearing its 90th anniversary next year and continues to operate with a workforce of over 1,500 employees. During his visit, the Deputy Prime Minister learned about Punjas’s growing international presence through its portfolio of Fijian-made products, showcasing the company’s contribution to the local economy.
Professor Prasad also explored Punjas’s corporate headquarters and its biscuit manufacturing operations, which play a crucial role in supporting the company’s extensive distribution network. In addition to its business initiatives, Punjas has made significant contributions to community welfare, including the recent $2.25 million investment in the Punjas Medical Centre, enhancing healthcare access for local residents.
Furthermore, the expansion of the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka signifies the company’s dedication to elevating the quality of life for Fijians. The visit concluded with a strategic discussion between Professor Prasad and Punjas Senior Directors, Mr. Kanti Punja and Mr. Jagjiwan Punja, focusing on the company’s vision for future growth and its impact on the economy.
As Punjas approaches a significant milestone in its history, it remains a vital catalyst for economic progress and community well-being in Fiji.
This development not only promises to advance logistics and supply chain efficiency but also embodies a bright future for both Punjas and the communities it supports, offering a positive outlook for growth and prosperity in the region.
