Punjas has officially launched its impressive $55 million Distribution Centre in Lautoka, poised to become the largest warehouse in the Pacific with an extensive storage capacity of 24,000 pallets. This state-of-the-art facility, which is still under construction, reflects Punjas’ dedication to improving its supply chain efficiency throughout Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
The establishment of this centre is a significant element of the company’s expansion strategy, aimed at addressing the increasing demand for its food and non-food products. This move also reinforces Punjas’ standing as one of the largest privately-owned businesses in Fiji.
During a recent visit to the site, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, expressed his enthusiasm for the new development, stating, “This new facility is a significant milestone not only for Punjas but for the entire Pacific region. It will undoubtedly enhance the efficiency of regional supply chains and create new economic opportunities, while strengthening Fiji’s position as a key player in the Pacific’s growing market.”
Founded in 1935, Punjas is preparing to celebrate its 90th anniversary next year and continues to thrive with a workforce of over 1,500 employees. During his visit, Professor Prasad also explored the corporate headquarters and the company’s biscuit manufacturing operations, which play a crucial role in supporting Punjas’ expansive distribution network.
The company is known for its commitment to social responsibility and recently announced a $2.25 million investment to expand the Punjas Medical Centre, enhancing healthcare support for the local community. Furthermore, the extension of the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka showcases the company’s ongoing dedication to improving the quality of life for Fijians.
The visit concluded with a productive discussion between Professor Prasad and senior executives of Punjas, Mr. Kanti Punja and Mr. Jagjiwan Punja, focusing on the company’s vision for the future and its commitment to boosting economic growth.
As Punjas nears its 90th anniversary, it remains a vital contributor to Fiji’s economic advancement and community wellbeing, promising a brighter future for the region.
This development not only signifies growth for Punjas but also heralds positive changes for the broader community, underscoring the company’s role as a pillar of support and innovation in Fiji.
