Punjas has officially launched its state-of-the-art $55 million Distribution Centre in Lautoka, which is set to become the largest warehouse in the Pacific, boasting a remarkable storage capacity of 24,000 pallets. This modern facility, currently under construction, reflects Punjas’ dedication to improving its supply chain capabilities throughout Fiji and the wider Pacific region.

The new Distribution Centre is an integral part of the company’s growth strategy to meet the increasing demand for both food and non-food products, further cementing its status as one of Fiji’s largest privately-owned businesses. During a recent visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, toured the new facility to better understand Punjas’ operations and strategic goals.

“This new facility is a significant milestone not just for Punjas but for the entire Pacific region,” Professor Prasad commented, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on regional supply chains and economic opportunities, as well as reinforcing Fiji’s role in the growing Pacific market.

Established in 1935, Punjas is preparing to celebrate its 90th anniversary next year and continues to thrive with a workforce of over 1,500 employees. During his visit, Professor Prasad was briefed on Punjas’ contribution to the local economy and its expanding international footprint through its range of Fijian-made products. The tour also included Punjas’ corporate headquarters and their innovative biscuit manufacturing operations, which play a pivotal role in supporting the extensive distribution network.

In addition to its business achievements, Punjas is also recognized for its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including a $2.25 million investment to expand the Punjas Medical Centre, aimed at enhancing healthcare in the community. The planned extension of the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka further demonstrates the company’s commitment to enriching the quality of life for the residents of Fiji.

The tour concluded with a discussion between Professor Prasad and Punjas’ senior directors, Kanti Punja and Jagjiwan Punja, focusing on the company’s vision for the future and its role in promoting economic growth in the region.

This new development not only signals progress for Punjas but also brings a sense of hope and potential for the Pacific region, showcasing how local enterprises can lead to broader economic advancement and community improvement.
