Punjas has officially announced the opening of its state-of-the-art $55 million Distribution Centre in Lautoka, set to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific with a remarkable storage capacity of 24,000 pallets. This modern facility, currently under construction, highlights Punjas’ dedication to strengthening its supply chain capabilities throughout Fiji and the wider Pacific region.

As a crucial element of the company’s ambitious expansion plan, the Distribution Centre aims to address the increasing demand for both food and non-food products, thereby reinforcing Punjas’ status as one of the largest privately owned companies in Fiji.

During a visit to the site, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad gained insight into the company’s operational strategies. “This new facility marks a significant landmark not just for Punjas but for the entire Pacific region,” he remarked, emphasizing its potential to boost supply chain efficiencies and create new economic opportunities, further solidifying Fiji’s position in the growing Pacific market.

Punjas, founded in 1935 and approaching its 90th anniversary next year, employs over 1,500 individuals and continues to thrive. In addition to discussing the Distribution Centre, the management team shared insights about the company’s role in fostering the local economy and its expanding international presence via its Fijian-made products.

Professor Prasad’s tour also included a visit to the corporate headquarters and the company’s biscuit manufacturing operations, which continue to evolve and enhance Punjas’ extensive distribution network.

In a demonstration of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Punjas has recently invested $2.25 million into expanding the Punjas Medical Centre, offering essential healthcare support to the community. Moreover, the extension of Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for Fijians.

The visit culminated in a meeting between Professor Prasad and Punjas senior directors Kanti Punja and Jagjiwan Punja, where they discussed the company’s future vision and its vital role in promoting economic growth.

This development not only marks a significant achievement for Punjas but also embodies hope for the community, as it brings enhanced facilities, job opportunities, and improved healthcare services, demonstrating a clear commitment to the region’s long-term prosperity.
