One of the largest privately-owned companies in Fiji, Punjas Group of Companies, has announced the construction of a new $55 million distribution center in the Western Division, coinciding with its upcoming 90th anniversary. This state-of-the-art facility, located in Lautoka, is expected to become the largest warehouse in the Pacific, featuring a storage capacity for 24,000 pallets.
Punjas, which has been a key player in the manufacturing and distribution of fast-moving consumer goods since its establishment in 1935, is focused on enhancing its supply chain capabilities to effectively meet the increasing demand for both food and non-food products across Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
During a recent visit to the construction site, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Prof. Biman Prasad, acknowledged the significance of this investment, stating it marks a vital milestone for both Punjas and the Pacific as a whole. He emphasized that this facility will enhance regional supply chain efficiencies and create promising economic opportunities, further solidifying Fiji’s role in the growing market of the Pacific.
Punjas employs over 1,500 workers, and their operations are continuously evolving. The visit included insights into the company’s biscuit manufacturing processes and discussions with senior directors Kanti Punja and Jagjiwan Punja regarding the future vision of the company and its impact on economic growth.
In addition to the distribution center, Punjas recently celebrated the expansion of the Punjas Medical Centre with a $2.25 million investment aimed at improving medical care accessibility. The company’s initiatives also extend to the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka, reflecting its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the Fijian community.
This development represents a hopeful future for the local economy and highlights the ongoing dedication of Punjas to both its operational growth and social responsibility.
In summary, the unveiling of the new distribution center marks a significant moment for Punjas Group of Companies as it prepares to celebrate nearly a century of operation while actively contributing to the economic landscape of Fiji and the Pacific region.
