One of Fiji’s prominent privately-owned companies, the Punjas Group of Companies, has introduced a state-of-the-art $55 million distribution center in the Western Division, just in time for its 90th anniversary next year. As a leading manufacturer and distributor of fast-moving consumer goods, this investment represents a major chapter in Punjas’ growth strategy and is anticipated to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific, boasting a storage capacity of 24,000 pallets.

Currently under construction in Lautoka, this facility underscores Punjas’ dedication to enhancing its supply chain capabilities throughout Fiji and the wider Pacific region, in response to the increasing demand for both food and non-food products. Over the weekend, Punjas hosted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Prof Biman Prasad, who toured the facility. During the visit, management emphasized the company’s significant impact on the local economy and its expanding international presence through a portfolio of Fijian-made products.

Prof. Prasad remarked that this substantial investment marks a pivotal moment not only for Punjas but also for the Pacific region as a whole. He noted that it would significantly improve the efficiency of regional supply chains and create new economic opportunities, reinforcing Fiji’s role as a key player in the growing Pacific market.

Established in 1935, Punjas currently employs over 1,500 workers and is preparing for its milestone anniversary next year. During his visit, Prasad explored the corporate headquarters and the company’s innovative biscuit manufacturing operations, which support its extensive distribution network. He met with senior directors Kanti Punja and Jagjiwan Punja, who shared their vision for the company’s future and its commitment to economic growth.

Additionally, last Wednesday, Punjas reinforced its commitment to social responsibility by celebrating the expansion of the Punjas Medical Centre with a $2.25 million investment through its Punjas Charity Trust, aimed at enhancing accessibility to medical care. The company also expanded the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka, demonstrating its ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for the people of Fiji.

The establishment of this distribution center is a hopeful development for Fiji, symbolizing economic growth and sustainability in the region as Punjas continues to evolve and adapt to the changing market needs.
